Un bois vanille is Serge Lutens' cult vanilla: a black vanilla, gourmand and woody, softened with coconut milk and lifted by a slightly bitter licorice. One of the great vanillas of perfumery, a pillar of the Collection noire.

A vanilla in wood

Black vanilla opens full and caramelised, almost edible. The heart, creamy, blends coconut milk, licorice, beeswax and tonka bean — a nuanced sweetness, never cloying. The base, drier, reveals smoky guaiac wood, sandalwood and almond, held by a soft musk. A warm, enveloping vanilla.

Expert tip

Un bois vanille comes into its own in autumn and winter, by day or evening. Two sprays are enough, so tenacious and generous is its trail. Keep the bottle away from light and temperature swings.

Serge Lutens, born in 1942 in Lille, is a French artist of many talents: photographer, filmmaker, fashion architect and perfume creator. After early work in hairstyling and make-up, he collaborated with prestigious magazines such as Vogue. In 1980 he began a defining collaboration with Shiseido, shaping the brand's visual identity and launching iconic fragrances such as "Féminité du bois" in 1992. In 2000 he founded his own perfume house, Serge Lutens, offering unique, avant-garde olfactory creations. Deeply influenced by Marrakech, where he acquired a residence in 1974, he draws major inspiration from the city for his fragrances. Today, the Serge Lutens house is recognised for its artistic approach and its commitment to originality and quality.
