Serge Lutens At Home: five imaginary houses, three ways to inhabit them

A man from Lille who became a legend of perfume

Serge Lutens was born in Lille in 1942. A storyteller and a builder of worlds before he was a perfumer, he created a body of work in which every fragrance opens onto a place. The At Home line extends that gesture to the scale of a room: five worlds, each in a room fragrance and an incense, plus an electric diffuser with its refills. Finding him in his home city means something to a Lille perfumery.

The five worlds

Mesk el-laïl - Le Jardin Arabe opens onto night-blooming jasmine. Le Palais des Sables - La Maison Arabe settles in amber and resins. La Dame de Heian - La Maison Japonaise evokes the court of Kyoto. L'Armoire à Linge holds clean linen and lavender. Pierres sèches, laine et cuir - La Maison Écossaise leans mineral and leathery. Each one also exists as a box of incense.

Three formats, three uses

The room fragrance is sprayed upwards, towards the ceiling, so the cloud falls without marking fabrics. Incense needs a dedicated holder and a ventilated room: light it, blow out the flame, and the smoulder does the rest. The electric diffuser is the continuous format: insert a refill, set the intensity, and the fragrance holds the room with no flame and no steam — the right choice for a bedroom or a study.

Which world for which room?

L'Armoire à Linge belongs in a bedroom or a laundry room; La Maison Écossaise holds a winter living room; Le Jardin Arabe and La Maison Arabe suit reception rooms, where their density can express itself. Mesk el-laïl, La Maison Écossaise and Le Palais des Sables are certified vegan as room fragrances. To carry the world onto the skin, the Collection Noire gathers the house eaux de parfum.
