Domaine Privé: when a life in luxury returns to the essence of perfume
Claude Saujet: a life at the heart of French luxury
Claude Saujet, born in 1945, is one of the most respected figures in the luxury perfume industry. He began in 1967 at Revlon, joined Orlane then Sanofi where he oversaw the launch of First by Van Cleef & Arpels in 1976 — the first perfume marketed by a jewellery house. In 1980, he became Managing Director of Cartier Parfums and led the creation of Must de Cartier, the house's first perfume. In 1983, he chaired Cartier Inc. in New York. After an exceptional career at YSL Beauté, he founded CPI (Cosmétique et Parfum International) in 1995, developing the distribution of Atelier des Ors, Akro and Roos & Roos. In 2018, he launched Domaine Privé — his personal work: a return to the roots of perfumery, to the absolute purity of natural materials, crafted in Grasse, the world's perfume capital.
8 soliflores: nature in its purest form
A soliflore celebrates a single raw material, revealing its full complexity and beauty within a refined olfactory pyramid. Domaine Privé offers 8 unisex soliflores crafted in Grasse. The floral perfumes include Rose (Centifolia Rose, lily, ylang ylang and orange blossom), Mimosa (powdery, solar, evanescent) and Rhubarbe (tangy, peach blossom, jasmine). The woody expressions appear in Vétiver (refined, earthy, leathery) and Cédrat (fresh, green, white cedar). Lavande is the quintessential aromatic soliflore — mineral, Provençal, with myrrh incense. Vanille is a gourmand vanilla soliflore centred on a Bourbon orchid. Chèvrefeuille brings an irresistible hesperidic floral lightness. Every creation is free of colourants and animal-derived ingredients.
Frequently asked questions about DOMAINE PRIVÉ perfumes
Who is Claude Saujet, founder of Domaine Privé?
Claude Saujet is a legendary figure in French luxury perfumery. Managing Director of Cartier Parfums in the 1980s, he created Must de Cartier and oversaw First by Van Cleef & Arpels — two milestones in luxury perfume history. After YSL Beauté and founding CPI, he created Domaine Privé in 2018: his personal work, a return to the absolute simplicity of nature, crafted in Grasse.
What is a soliflore in perfumery?
A soliflore is a perfume built around a single leading note — a raw material that reveals its full complexity and beauty. At Domaine Privé, each soliflore celebrates one unique material: Rose (Grasse Centifolia Rose), Vétiver (refined and earthy), Cédrat (fresh and woody), Lavande (Provençal and mineral), Mimosa (powdery and solar), Vanille (Bourbon orchid), Rhubarbe (tangy and floral) and Chèvrefeuille (hesperidic and light).
Why are Domaine Privé perfumes crafted in Grasse?
Grasse has been the world capital of perfumery since the 17th century — the place where the finest floral raw materials are grown and transformed. Claude Saujet chose Grasse by conviction: only Grasse's artisanal precision can reveal the purity of a Rose or Mimosa in its full olfactory truth. It is also a tribute to the great tradition of French perfumery.
Are Domaine Privé perfumes unisex?
Yes — all Domaine Privé soliflores are unisex. The house is built around the purity of raw materials, not gender codes. Vétiver and Cédrat — refined woodys — alongside Rose and Mimosa — luminous florals — are made for everyone. Our discovery box lets you test all 8 soliflores before committing.
Which Domaine Privé soliflore to choose first?
It depends on your olfactory sensibility. If you love luminous floral perfumes, start with Rose (complex, moving) or Mimosa (powdery, solar). For a deep, refined woody soliflore, Vétiver is an absolute reference. For freshness, Cédrat or Chèvrefeuille are the most accessible. Our discovery box lets you test the whole collection and find the soliflore that suits you.
