Matiere Premiere builds every creation around a single natural ingredient, used in overdose. Its founder Aurélien Guichard, third generation of a family of Grasse perfumers, grows part of his own materials — rose centifolia, tuberose, lavandin — in the Grasse region. The La Maison line applies the same principle to the candle: one material, one terroir, one name.

Five materials, five terroirs

Rose de Mai brings Grasse centifolia into the room. Encens Oman lifts boswellia resin from Dhofar. Tubéreuse Grasse unfolds the most carnal white flower in perfumery. Saffron Kozani draws on Greek saffron. Santal Australia rests on Australian sandalwood, a sustainable alternative to Indian sandalwood.

How to burn a scented candle

On first use, let it burn until the entire surface is liquid: this is what prevents tunnelling for the rest of the candle's life. Trim the wick to five millimetres before each lighting, and do not exceed two hours per session. To compare several materials, our team will let you smell them cold in store.
