Memo Paris Clara & John Molloy, Perfume as an Olfactory Passport for the World

Memo Paris was founded in 2007 by Clara Molloy — Parisian-Catalan poet, former journalist, author of a book on perfumers — and her husband John Molloy — Irish globetrotter, ex-L'Oréal executive. Having met on a chair-lift in 2005, they created Memo around a conviction: "Perfume is a journey." Memo = fusion of "Memory" and "Memoirs". The most complete brand in the Soleil d'Or catalogue.

Memo Paris: 5 collections to travel olfactively from Africa to the Moon

Clara & John Molloy: a chair-lift, a book, a perfume house

Clara Molloy grew up in Paris of Catalan parents. Literature at the Sorbonne, journalist and editor, she wrote a book in 2006 on perfumers: "22 perfumers in creation". Revelation: perfumers are depressed, brands under-use them, fragrances are becoming uniform. "There was a space to fill." She met John Molloy on a chair-lift in 2005 — Irish, ex-L'Oréal executive, globetrotter. Together they founded Memo Paris in 2007. The first perfumes debuted at Le Bon Marché in Paris, then at Harvey Nichols in London. Memo is now present in 52 countries worldwide, with a Paris boutique at 24 rue Cambon. Principal perfumer: Aliénor Massenet (with whom Clara says: "She understands what I'm saying quickly and vice versa"). The MI International group (Geneva) carries the activities, including also Floraïku and Hermetica.

5 collections: Cuirs Nomades, Les Échappées, Graines Vagabondes, Art Land and the classics

The Cuirs Nomades collection is Memo's most distinctive signature — a nod to vintage luggage and leather cases. French Leather — floral leather, rose and musk — is the house icon. Moroccan Leather (iris, orange blossom, vetiver) · Russian Leather · Irish Leather (juniper, mate) · Italian Leather · African Leather · Oriental Leather · Ocean Leather · Iberian Leather · Sicilian Leather. The Les Échappées collection: Lalibela (Ethiopia — floral chypre) · Inlé (Burma) · Siwa (Egypt — vanilla). The Graines Vagabondes collection: Marfa (Texas — floral) · Sherwood (woody) · Corfu (hesperidic). The Art Land collection: Moon Fever (the smell of the Moon). The Carnet de Route (7 samples) is the perfect introduction to the house.

Frequently asked questions about MEMO PARIS perfumes

Who are Clara and John Molloy?

Clara Molloy is the Creative Director and co-founder of Memo Paris. A Parisian of Catalan origin, journalist, editor and poet, she wrote a book on perfumers in 2006 that revealed her to the world of perfumery. John Molloy is the President and co-founder — Irish globetrotter, ex-L'Oréal executive. Having met on a chair-lift in 2005, they founded Memo Paris in 2007. Clara works primarily with perfumer Aliénor Massenet, who signs the vast majority of Memo's creations.

Why is the Cuirs Nomades collection so iconic?

The Cuirs Nomades collection is Memo Paris's most recognisable signature — a celebration of the art of travel of bygone days, inspired by vintage luggage and leather cases. French Leather (rose, leather, musk — floral leather) is the absolute icon. But the collection explores leather across the world: Moroccan Leather (iris, orange blossom), Russian Leather, Irish Leather (where John Molloy grew up), African Leather, and more. Ten leathers, ten destinations.

What does the name Memo Paris mean?

Memo is a fusion of "Memory" and "Memoirs" — Clara's passion for capturing precious moments. "The Journey is the Destination" is the house motto. Every perfume is an olfactory memory — a real or imaginary destination translated into a fragrant accord by Aliénor Massenet. The name also reflects the conviction that "skin memorises perfumes" — Memo compositions evolve beautifully over time and last.

What is the best Memo Paris perfume to start with?

French Leather is the essential icon — floral leather rose and musk, universal and elegant. For an exotic floral, Lalibela (Ethiopia, floral chypre) is magnificent. Marfa (Texas, fresh floral) is among the most contemporary. Siwa (Egypt, spiced vanilla) is the most enveloping. The Carnet de Route (7 samples) is the best way to discover the house. Our discovery box completes the experience.

What are the 5 Memo Paris collections?

Cuirs Nomades (10 leathers, tribute to travel of bygone days) · Les Échappées (iconic destinations: Lalibela, Inlé, Siwa…) · Graines Vagabondes (contemporary fragrances with a hint of surprise: Marfa, Corfu, Sherwood…) · Art Land (imaginary destinations: Moon Fever, the smell of the Moon) · Classic signatures (Eau de Memo, African Rose, Winter Palace…). With 53 active perfumes, Memo is the most complete brand in the Soleil d'Or catalogue.
