The newest arrival in the Collection noire, Écrin de fumée is a tribute to those who burn the candle at both ends. Serge Lutens seals within it the smoke of a dying fire: tobacco, rum and dark cacao, beneath a veil of still-warm ash.

Beneath the veil of smoke

The opening is woody and boozy: ambered rum and smoke rise as if from a fading campfire. The heart reveals a blond tobacco, sensual and sweet. Then comes a dark cacao, powdery and faintly bitter, laid over woody notes — a shadowy gourmand, somewhere between dying embers and dark chocolate.

Expert tip

Écrin de fumée is powerful and very long-lasting: a single spray is enough to wrap the whole day. It is at its best in autumn and winter, in the evening. Keep the bottle away from light and temperature swings.

Serge Lutens, born in 1942 in Lille, is a French artist of many talents: photographer, filmmaker, fashion architect and perfume creator. After early work in hairstyling and make-up, he collaborated with prestigious magazines such as Vogue. In 1980 he began a defining collaboration with Shiseido, shaping the brand's visual identity and launching iconic fragrances such as "Féminité du bois" in 1992. In 2000 he founded his own perfume house, Serge Lutens, offering unique, avant-garde olfactory creations. Deeply influenced by Marrakech, where he acquired a residence in 1974, he draws major inspiration from the city for his fragrances. Today, the Serge Lutens house is recognised for its artistic approach and its commitment to originality and quality.
