En 1973, jeune parfumeur fraîchement arrivé à New York, j'ai composé pour Houbigant mon premier grand classique « à la française », fidèle à mon goût des fleurs plus qu'à celui de l'ambre. Des décennies plus tard, j'ai eu la chance rare de le réécrire — non pas tel qu'il était, mais tel que je le rêve aujourd'hui. Plus clair, plus lisible, plus subtil, il accorde la primauté aux matières, fleurs et bois, davantage qu'aux idées. À la manière d'un auteur qui revient sur un texte ancien, j'ai aimé ces quelques pas dans le passé.

Founded in 1775 by Jean-François Houbigant, the House of Houbigant is one of the oldest French perfume houses, spanning four centuries of history. From its earliest days, it won over the royal courts of Europe, notably Marie-Antoinette and Empress Maria Feodorovna of Russia. A pioneer in the art of perfumery, Houbigant introduced major innovations, such as the creation of "Fougère Royale" in 1882, which established a new olfactory family. Today, the House continues to blend tradition and modernity, offering refined fragrances that carry on its legacy of excellence.
