Ambre sultan

Ambre sultan holds a place apart in Serge Lutens' body of work: that of the manifesto fragrance, born from a fragment of amber wax that was forgotten, then recomposed into a sovereign amber. On its own it embodies the modern oriental amber, a benchmark many have tried to equal without ever reaching it.

Its signature rests on a contrast: a green, bitter attack — coriander, oregano, bay leaf — giving way to a resinous, balsamic warmth. Myrrh, angelica and myrtle draw its heart; amber, vanilla, benzoin, resins, sandalwood and patchouli make up its dense, hedonistic base.

Composed by Christopher Sheldrake under the direction of Serge Lutens, Ambre sultan wears like a golden second skin — as fitting in the depths of winter as on evenings when you want to make an impression.

SERGE LUTENS

Serge Lutens, born in 1942 in Lille, is a French artist of many talents: photographer, filmmaker, fashion architect and perfume creator. After early work in hairstyling and make-up, he collaborated with prestigious magazines such as Vogue. In 1980 he began a defining collaboration with Shiseido, shaping the brand's visual identity and launching iconic fragrances such as "Féminité du bois" in 1992. In 2000 he founded his own perfume house, Serge Lutens, offering unique, avant-garde olfactory creations. Deeply influenced by Marrakech, where he acquired a residence in 1974, he draws major inspiration from the city for his fragrances. Today, the Serge Lutens house is recognised for its artistic approach and its commitment to originality and quality.
