The centrepiece of the Collection noire, Ambre sultan was born of a memory: a fragment of amber wax that Serge Lutens came across in a Marrakech souk, forgotten at the bottom of a thuya-wood box and rediscovered years later. From that raw material he drew a sovereign amber — resinous, warm and absolute.

A recomposed amber, between resins and vanilla

The opening is green and aromatic: coriander pricks, oregano and bay leaf unfurl their herbal bitterness, like a Mediterranean garden under the sun. The heart turns balsamic — myrrh, angelica and myrtle weaving a resinous, mysterious thread. Then comes the foundation: a majestic amber, softened with vanilla and benzoin, thickened with resins, sandalwood and patchouli. A golden warmth that settles on the skin and refuses to fade.

Ambre sultan reveals itself directly on the skin: spray it onto your pulse points and wait a few minutes, letting the composition unfold its full breadth. Serge Lutens, born in 1942 in Lille, is a French artist of many talents: photographer, filmmaker, fashion architect and perfume creator. After early work in hairstyling and make-up, he collaborated with prestigious magazines such as Vogue. In 1980 he began a defining collaboration with Shiseido, shaping the brand's visual identity and launching iconic fragrances such as "Féminité du bois" in 1992. In 2000 he founded his own perfume house, Serge Lutens, offering unique, avant-garde olfactory creations. Deeply influenced by Marrakech, where he acquired a residence in 1974, he draws major inspiration from the city for his fragrances. Today, the Serge Lutens house is recognised for its artistic approach and its commitment to originality and quality.
