What is a chypre perfume?

The chypre family was founded in 1917 by François Coty with the perfume Chypre, around an unprecedented accord that gave its name to the family. It brings together perfumes whose dominant accord is built around oakmoss, bergamot, patchouli, labdanum and floral notes (rose, jasmine). A noble, racy and complex family, that founded contemporary perfumery and inspired the great chypre creations of the 20th century (Mitsouko, Femme by Rochas, Aromatics Elixir). Today rare in niche due to oakmoss restrictions imposed by IFRA, it offers connoisseurs a precious heritage signature.
