The spirit of the line

Eau d'Hadrien, Petite Chérie, Sables: these classics wrote the legend of Annick Goutal, a Parisian author's house founded in 1981 and a pioneer of niche perfumery. You recognise the hand of Annick Goutal herself, the pianist turned perfumer who died in 1999, whose daughter Camille Goutal carries on her vision, long alongside Isabelle Doyen. Quite simply, the perfumes to start with.

Eau d'Hadrien — lemon, cypress and bergamot under the Tuscan sun, a citrus masterpiece from 1981 — continues in Eau d'Hadrien Mixte, a luminous variation on grapefruit and musk. Petite Chérie, a tender accord of pear, rose and vanilla, embodies softness; Sables, immortelle, amber and sandalwood, remains one of the great amber woody scents in niche perfumery.

Les Incontournables at Soleil d'Or, a Lille perfumery since 1953

Founded in 1953 by Jeanne Muyllaert on the Grand'Place in Lille, Soleil d'Or is an independent perfumery passed down through the generations. Hubert Maës (third generation) made it a niche perfumery reference; today his daughters Victorine and Apolline Maës (fourth generation) uphold that standard at 22 rue de la Clef, Lille (59800).
