Hellenist: a high-perfumery odyssey

A house founded by Jean-David Jacoby, a Hellenist in love with Greece

Hellenist Paris was born in 2024 from the passion of Jean-David Jacoby, who fell in love with Greece at the age of 6 on a family trip to Santorini, and who brings more than twenty years of experience in the luxury and fragrance industry. The house presents itself as a “temple of memories”: mixing art and perfume to bring back legends and forgotten heroes, building a bridge between past and present.

The signature scents of the Hellenist house

The Hellenist pantheon brings together Les bras de Morphée, a 2025 Fragrance Foundation France Awards finalist, Le chant d'Achille, À l'ombre d'Artémis, Les dieux aux bains and La Nuit des 300 — eaux de parfum available in 100 ml and 15 ml. For travelling, the Kit Découverte “Les lumières” gathers three creations in 15 ml; the house also extends its universe into scented candles such as the Bougie figuier sacré.

The Hellenist olfactory signature: four perfumers for one pantheon

Each myth is entrusted to a nose. Alexandra Carlin signs Le chant d'Achille, a “chameleon” orange blossom on a bed of musks lifted by immortelle; Suzy Le Helley composed À l'ombre d'Artémis, a dewy fresh rose with woody nuances, and Les bras de Morphée, a powdery iris softened with vanilla and tonka bean; Pierre-Constantin Guéros imagined Les dieux aux bains, an aromatic freshness where rosemary and juniper meet an aquatic facet; and Maurice Roucel, a pioneer of magnolia in perfumery, orchestrates La Nuit des 300, between aldehydes, lavender and ambery musks.

Who is Hellenist for, and when to wear it?

All Hellenist eaux de parfum are unisex, and the palette covers every season: from luminous floral to enveloping musky creations, from the aquatic freshness of Les dieux aux bains to the powdery oriental of Les bras de Morphée. If you enjoy Hellenist, also explore Chambre52, Solférino Paris and Fascent, three other young niche houses at Soleil d'Or.

How to choose your Hellenist perfume?

Hesitating between Le chant d'Achille and À l'ombre d'Artémis is natural: perfume is chosen on the skin. Our custom discovery box gathers 5 samples of 2 mL of your choice, hand-prepared from the official juices — Hellenist included. On the brand side, the Kit Découverte (3 × 15 ml) lets three creations travel with you. And for a guided trial, our Lille boutique awaits you.

Hellenist at Soleil d'Or, a Lille perfumery since 1953

Founded in 1953 by Jeanne Muyllaert on Lille's Grand'Place, Soleil d'Or is an independent perfumery passed down through generations. Hubert Maes (third generation) made it a reference for niche perfumery; today his daughters Victorine and Apolline Maes (fourth generation) uphold this standard at 22 rue de la Clef, Lille (59800).

Frequently asked questions about Hellenist perfumes

What does the name Hellenist mean?

In antiquity, a Hellenist was a person who had adopted the Greek language, outlook and customs without being Greek in ancestry — the definition the house takes up, founded by Jean-David Jacoby, a Frenchman in love with Greece since childhood who has returned to the Greek islands for about 15 years. “Greece is a temple, Hellenist the temple of memories,” sums up the official The House page.

Who founded Hellenist and what is their experience?

Jean-David Jacoby, founder and creative director, launched Hellenist in 2024 after more than twenty years of experience in the luxury and fragrance industry, where he held major roles in big international groups. He entrusts his myths to four perfumers — Alexandra Carlin, Suzy Le Helley, Pierre-Constantin Guéros and Maurice Roucel — and his bottles to artist Carlo Amen; their portraits are gathered on the official Creative Team page.

What is the Hellenist best-seller?

Les bras de Morphée is the Hellenist best-seller at Soleil d'Or: a powdery oriental composed by Suzy Le Helley around iris, violet, heliotrope, tonka bean and vanilla, and a 2025 Fragrance Foundation France Awards finalist. Le chant d'Achille and Les dieux aux bains complete the podium; the Kit Découverte “Les lumières” (3 × 15 ml) remains the best way to try them in travel size.

Is Hellenist truly eco-responsible?

Yes — the house claims “a strong engagement on our environmental impact”: made in France production, components from the Mediterranean region, upcycled and recyclable materials, FSC paper, virtuous formulas, and bottles in paper, wood, glass and ceramic designed with artist Carlo Amen. Luxury at Hellenist is meant to be “slow and quiet” rather than ostentatious: the house values time and effort, craftsmanship and creation.

How to choose your first Hellenist?

For an enveloping, comforting first perfume, Les bras de Morphée (powdery oriental) remains the reference; for a greener, more vibrant floral with woody nuances, choose À l'ombre d'Artémis; for a fresh aromatic-aquatic ideal in summer, Les dieux aux bains. The best way is to try on skin: build your custom discovery box — 5 samples of 2 mL of your choice, prepared from the official juices — or visit us at 22 rue de la Clef in Lille.

What is the Hellenist perfume Le Chant d'Achille?

Le chant d'Achille is Hellenist's floral and musky eau de parfum, composed by Alexandra Carlin: a “chameleon” orange blossom, in turns virginal and warrior-like, set on a bed of musks and lifted by immortelle with warm, salty accents — a nod to the Mediterranean. The perfumer was inspired by Madeline Miller's novel about Achilles, a gift from Jean-David Jacoby; geranium and moss add the impression of a deceptive fougère.
