Memo Paris: the perfume as olfactive passport

Clara and John Molloy and the founding of the maison

Memo Paris was founded in 2007 in Paris by Clara and John Molloy, around a clear creative conviction: "perfume is a journey". The maison structures its catalogue around this idea — each fragrance bears the name of a place, and transcribes the atmosphere of that place into a narrative olfactive composition. African Leather evokes the Kenyan savanna, Cap Camarat the Mediterranean rocks, Russian Leather the Saint Petersburg of the Tsars. A literary perfumery that imposes itself among the most followed Parisian niche maisons.

The maison's signature scents

The Memo pantheon brings together African Leather, Cap Camarat, Italian Leather, Russian Leather and Irish Leather — a roster of leather signatures and travel evocations that bear witness to the maison's narrative writing.

African Leather, the contemporary niche cult

African Leather deserves a special mention: created in 2014, it has installed itself among the cults of contemporary niche, with its accord of saffron, cardamom, leather, geranium that transcribes the dust of the Kenyan savanna, the heat of the dry earth, the suede of nomadic riding gear. A creation that demonstrates the maison's writing principle — the precise place served by an immediately evocative olfactive composition.

Who is Memo Paris for, and when to wear it?

Memo Paris speaks to lovers of contemporary narrative perfumery, who appreciate compositions rooted in a precise place evocation. The house is unisex. Creations sit in the leather, oriental, woody and hesperidic families, and shine year-round. If you enjoy Memo, you will also want to explore BDK Parisienne Collection, Maison Crivelli and Goldfield & Banks — three other narrative niche signatures at Soleil d'Or.

Frequently asked questions about Memo Paris perfumes

Who are Clara and John Molloy?

Clara Molloy is the Creative Director and co-founder of Memo Paris. A Parisian of Catalan origin, journalist, editor and poet, she wrote a book on perfumers in 2006 that revealed her to the world of perfumery. John Molloy is the President and co-founder — Irish globetrotter, ex-L'Oréal executive. Having met on a chair-lift in 2005, they founded Memo Paris in 2007. Clara works primarily with perfumer Aliénor Massenet, who signs the vast majority of Memo's creations.

Why is the Cuirs Nomades collection so iconic?

The Cuirs Nomades collection is Memo Paris's most recognisable signature — a celebration of the art of travel of bygone days, inspired by vintage luggage and leather cases. French Leather (rose, leather, musk — floral leather) is the absolute icon. But the collection explores leather across the world: Moroccan Leather (iris, orange blossom), Russian Leather, Irish Leather (where John Molloy grew up), African Leather, and more. Ten leathers, ten destinations.

What does the name Memo Paris mean?

Memo is a fusion of "Memory" and "Memoirs" — Clara's passion for capturing precious moments. "The Journey is the Destination" is the house motto. Every perfume is an olfactory memory — a real or imaginary destination translated into a fragrant accord by Aliénor Massenet. The name also reflects the conviction that "skin memorises perfumes" — Memo compositions evolve beautifully over time and last.

What is the best Memo Paris perfume to start with?

French Leather is the essential icon — floral leather rose and musk, universal and elegant. For an exotic floral, Lalibela (Ethiopia, floral chypre) is magnificent. Marfa (Texas, fresh floral) is among the most contemporary. Siwa (Egypt, spiced vanilla) is the most enveloping. The Carnet de Route (7 samples) is the best way to discover the house. Our discovery box completes the experience.

What are the 5 Memo Paris collections?

Cuirs Nomades (10 leathers, tribute to travel of bygone days) · Les Échappées (iconic destinations: Lalibela, Inlé, Siwa…) · Graines Vagabondes (contemporary fragrances with a hint of surprise: Marfa, Corfu, Sherwood…) · Art Land (imaginary destinations: Moon Fever, the smell of the Moon) · Classic signatures (Eau de Memo, African Rose, Winter Palace…). With 53 active perfumes, Memo is the most complete brand in the Soleil d'Or catalogue.
