Goutal Paris – The Pioneer House of French Niche Perfumery Since 1981
Goutal Paris was founded in Paris in 1981 by Annick Goutal — pianist, model and antique dealer turned pioneering perfumer. One of the first women perfumers in a world of men, she created Eau d'Hadrien that year, the first icon of French niche perfumery. Since then, the house has passed its art of emotion from generation to generation: her daughter Camille Goutal and perfumer Isabelle Doyen carry on the legacy.

Goutal Paris: over 40 years of poetic perfumery in service of emotion
Annick Goutal: pianist, model, pioneer
Annick Goutal was born in Aix-en-Provence, the third of eight children of a confectioner father. A piano prodigy, she won first prize at the Versailles Conservatory at 16 before rebelling against this destiny to become a model. Photographed by David Bailey, she also gave up that career to open an antique shop in Paris, then discovered perfumery in Grasse where she met Henri Sorsana, who changed her life. In 1979 she became a perfumer. In 1981, she opened her boutique on rue de Bellechasse in Paris and created Eau d'Hadrien — inspired by Marguerite Yourcenar's Memoirs of Hadrian, read in Tuscany. This fresh, elegant hesperidic perfume would become one of the greatest icons of world niche perfumery. By the 1990s the house was in the top 5 at Saks and Nieman Marcus. Annick Goutal passed away in 1999. Her daughter Camille Goutal and perfumer Isabelle Doyen perpetuate the work with the same sensitivity.

Frequently asked questions about GOUTAL PARIS perfumes
Who is Annick Goutal?
Annick Goutal (1945–1999) is one of the most important figures in French perfumery. A piano prodigy, model, antique dealer — she reinvented herself each time until discovering her true calling in Grasse in 1979. An absolute pioneer, she was one of the first women perfumers in a world of men. In 1981, she founded her house and created Eau d'Hadrien — the first icon of French niche perfumery. Her daughter Camille and Isabelle Doyen perpetuate her legacy today.
What is the most famous Goutal Paris perfume?
Eau d'Hadrien is the house's absolute icon — a timeless, elegant hesperidic lemon/cypress created in 1981. It is one of the most widely worn niche perfumes in the world, by both women and men. Petite Chérie (fruity floral from a mother to her daughter) and Songes (exotic nocturnal floral) complete the legendary trio. Our iconic discovery set lets you discover them together.
Which olfactory families does Goutal Paris cover?
Goutal Paris excels in two families: floral perfumes (Petite Chérie, Songes, Un Matin d'Orage, Rose Pompon, Étoile d'une nuit) and hesperidic perfumes (Eau d'Hadrien, Eau du Sud, Le Temps des Rêves). The orientals (Ambre Fétiche, Sables, Nuit et Confidences, Encens Flamboyant) bring depth. The "Oiseaux de nuit" collection is the most chypre-driven. With 46 references, Goutal is the most complete house in our catalogue.
Does Goutal Paris offer refillable bottles?
Yes — the Goutal house has been a pioneer of refillable bottles for over 40 years, long before it became a trend. Eau d'Hadrien and Petite Chérie are notably available in refillable format — a commitment to sustainability that reflects Annick Goutal's founding values. The house also offers a recycling service in its boutiques.
