BDK Parfums: Parisian heritage reinvented across three generations of perfumers
A family saga in the heart of Paris since 1959
David Benedek was born in Paris in 1989 into a family with Romanian and Hungarian roots. His grandparents, exiled from Transylvania, opened a perfume boutique on rue Saint-Honoré in 1959 — one of the first to distribute Christian Dior and Worth in Paris. Trained at the Institut Français de la Mode and at the Cinquième Sens school, David founded BDK Parfums in 2016 at the age of 26, with the ambition of creating an olfactory library where each perfume is a story. All concentrates are produced in the Grasse region; all suppliers are French. In 2022, Velvet Tonka won the Fragrance Foundation France award for best niche perfume. In 2024, he opened his first flagship at 312 rue Saint-Honoré — just metres from his grandparents' original boutique.
Four collections, one vision: materials in service of emotion
BDK Parfums organises its universe into four complementary collections. The Collection Parisienne — the soul of the house — gathers timeless floral, woody and fruity perfumes inspired by Parisian streets and seasons. The Collection Matières explores raw, noble raw materials — leather, aromatic and musky perfumes of remarkable depth, including the iconic Gris Charnel and Velvet Tonka. The Collection Azur captures Mediterranean luminosity in hesperidic and aquatic floral summer compositions. The Collection Exclusive brings together the most confidential creations — exceptional amber and vanilla perfumes. All BDK creations are unisex.

David Benedek founded BDK Parfums in Paris in 2016 at the age of 26. The grandson of Romanian-Hungarian perfumers established on rue Saint-Honoré since 1959, he grew up surrounded by the great names of classical perfumery. What does BDK stand for?
+
BDK are the initials of the founder's surname: Benedek. David Benedek chose these initials to convey the image of a creative collective and studio rather than a personal brand. The house is also known as BDK Paris.
Gris Charnel and Velvet Tonka are the two iconic signatures of the house. Gris Charnel — a musky powdery perfume of rare sensuality — launched BDK's international reputation. Velvet Tonka — a remarkably sophisticated vanillawoody — won the Fragrance Foundation France award for best niche perfume in 2022. Our personalised discovery box lets you test them before committing to a bottle.
Are BDK perfumes unisex?
+
Yes — all BDK Parfums creations are unisex. David Benedek has always rejected gender codes in perfumery. Whether you are drawn to the delicate florals of the Collection Parisienne or the intense leathers of the Collection Matières, every perfume is designed for all personalities.
