“Of all my childhood memories this is the one I remember the best. I watched Grandma as if hypnotized, full of admiration for her dedication, commitment and enthusiasm. As soon as I opened the front door, I could smell the sweet scent of vanilla added to the cakes, cinnamon and cloves, all mingling with the strong aroma of black pepper of Christmas dishes. The sensation of both sharpness and intensity struggled for prominence over hints of sweetness and subtlety.
